Born: c. March 15, 1989
Died: October 16, 2006 (old age/high blood pressure)

In late November of 1989, I bought Goober for Brian as an early Christmas present because Brian had to euthanize his bachelor cat, Mutt, who had Pica. At first Goober, who was named by the family from whom we bought her, was very shy and hid under the furniture. Then she came out of hiding and eventually went on to become quite the lap cat. Goober was an only cat until June 1991, when Brian and I adopted Lunch. The girls were our only two pets until we adopted Harry in December of 2002.
Goober was the cat with the cast iron stomach, a feline garbage disposal. She loved to eat corn (canned, corn chips, on the cob, popcorn, etc.), lettuce, turkey, ice cream, and especially french fries. This was the cat who would try to eat one end of the taco as you were eating the other end.
In May of 2001 while Brian was rubbing Goober's belly, he discovered some spots that didn't feel right. The vet diagnosed Goober with breast cancer, and the whole left chain of her breasts were removed. Because we caught it so early, Goober did not have to go through chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Goober's right chain of breasts had to be removed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer again one year later. Early detection of breast cancer increases survival rates for cats as well as humans.
When Lunch died suddenly in January 2006, Goober's health took a severe decline. Goober had suffered from irritable bowel disorder in her later years, but in 2006 her high blood pressure became a serious issue to the point where she could no longer see. In October of 2006, we sent her to the Rainbow Bridge to be with her sister Lunch.  We miss both our girls very much.
